Acceptance Speech 2012 Edna A. Lauterbach Member of the Year Award
THANK YOU! Let me first say how honored I am to receive this year’s Edna A. Lauterbach, Member of the Year Award. As I have been in the home care business for over 35 years, I had the privilege and honor to meet and work with Edna. The nursing scholarship fund which bears her name is a living testament to Edna’s quest for expanding the educational needs and standards within our industry.
I want to acknowledge that I have truly been blessed with so much from G-d. All of my family, my friends, my staff, and those whom I have met along the way, know that I believe in the goodness of humanity and our need to always lend a helping hand to all. I would also like to thank each and every one of you --- like Faye Whilby and Vee Kroessler from my staff who nominated me; to the HCP Board who selected me; to my wife, Joni, of 28 years… for standing beside me and supporting me; to my children Rob and Rebecca who are a continual source of pride for me; to business associates and acquaintances who have guided me or to who I was privileged to give counsel to. You have all enriched my life by being there—Thank you!
I have always tried to conduct myself as a gentleman in all aspects of life. Likewise when it comes to our industry and the body of work I have performed within HCP, I believe I have earned the support of your trust and confidence. Whether as President of the NYC Chapter; serving on the state Board of Directors, or making a webinair presentation on the new HHATP regulations; I have consistently asked the hard questions, delved into the details, and double checked the accounting numbers.
There is a quote from Mr. Peter Cooper who lived in NYC during the 1880’s that I keep next to my desk that I now share with you…“I have always recognized the object of business is to make money in an honorable manner. I have endeavored to remember that the object is life is to do good.” I hope that my doing “good” continues to expand and that I remain worthy of the honor you bestow upon me today.
Thank you, very much!
